VANDALISM OF POWER CABLES AT LWSC WATERS SOURCES DISRUPT WATER SUPPLY

THE Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LWSC) has bemoaned the continued vandalism of cables and infrastructure by thieves who have exploited power outages to damage and steal essential power supply cables.

In a statement issued to ZANIS, LWSC Public Relations and Customer Services Ruth Mukuwa stated that the destructive act has significantly disrupted water supply to selected parts of Lusaka.

Ms Mukuwa stated that this has caused financial losses amounting to approximately K200 thousand kwacha.

Ms. Mukuwa listed key water sources that have been affected, including the Malofarm Boreholes, which supply Ndeke Village, and the Avondale Boreholes, which provide water to New Avondale and part of Old Avondale.

She said other affected sources include the Chakunkula Borehole, serving part of Kamanga, and the International School Boreholes, which supplies Kalundu and Roma through the Mass Media Booster station.

“As a result of these disruptions, water inflow from these critical sources has been severely reduced, leading to ongoing supply interruptions and low water pressure in the affected areas,” Mukuwa indicated.

She further stated that the Company is working with ZESCO to address the damage and restore normal water supply

Ms. Mukuwa made an appeal to the public to help in safeguarding essential infrastructure and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities, critical for ensuring a stable and reliable water supply for all.
