REA project allocated one million

The Kasama Municipal Council says it has allocated K1 million towards the electrification of Lukashya Constituency using the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Kasama Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Charity Chaiwila disclosed that this follows the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the electrification of the area with the Rural Electrification (REA).

Ms Chaiwila said this initiative will see REA connect power to Lukashya Constituency, which is considered a remote area of Kasama.

“Lukashya Constituency has the most remote part of Kasama, which is not connected to the power grid in the district,” he said.

She told ZANIS in an interview that the local authority will use the money from the CDF to fund this project.

Ms Chaiwila explained that the project will promote economic transformation by connecting key infrastructure such as clinics, schools, houses, among others.

She added that electrification will also bridge the gap between people living in rural areas and those in urban areas.

“This project will help to bridge the gap between people living in rural areas and those in town, and it will also grant them an opportunity to own electrical items.” She said.

Ms Chaiwila further added that electrification will enable learners in the district to be exposed to technology.

Ms Chaiwila said REA will inform the council when the project begins.

Kasama Municipal Council was among the councils that signed MoUs with REA.
