Over 23,000 voters registered-Petauke

Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has registered a total of 23, 045 voters from January 2024 to April 2024 following the certification of the voters register on February 21, 2024.

ECZ Commissioner Vincent Mukanda says the overall count of the national register now stands at 7, 036, 862 up from the previous total of 7, 023, 499 adding that from this total 53.4 percent are female while 46.6 percent are male.

ZANIS reports that the Commissioner was speaking in a speech read on his behalf by Acting Director for Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Memory Mwaamba during a stakeholders meeting ahead of the commencement of continuous registration of voters in Petauke District.

Major Mukanda says the commission has a constitutional mandate to undertake electoral activities and ensure that all stakeholders play their respective roles in various electoral activities.

“The call to implement continuous registration of voters was a constant appeal by most stakeholders and it is against this background that the electoral commission of Zambia commenced the conduct of continuous registration of voters,”

And speaking at the same event, Petauke Town Council Chairperson Edward Banda appealed to all stakeholders to be part of the process and ensure that there is creation of awareness on the registration process in the respective communities.

Mr Banda encouraged all stakeholders to participate fully in the deliberations so that the delivery of a credible registration process.

“Let us all feel free as we are interacting, so that we can contribute positively and move this important electoral process forward,” He said.
