Government has been urged to consider increasing funding towards the education sector in order to improve service delivery.

Kasenengwa District Education Board Secretary, Matthias Chuunga, told ZANIS News in an interview that the current funding is inadequate to cater for most of the programmes in the district.

Mr Chuunga, however, acknowledged government’s consistency in the disbursement of funds but that there is need to consider increasing the allocation.

“We are grateful to the government because the funding has been very consistent. I think we have been receiving the allocations every quarter but it does not meet all our demands,” he said.

Mr Chuunga further added that due to the consistency in the disbursement of funds, the situation in the district has improved.

He cited the standards section as one of the sections that have seen a drastic improvement in service delivery.

Mr Chuunga attributed the development to the fact that the section receives separate funding which he says should also be increased.

“The standards section is the one that does a lot of work which culminates into learner performance as they inspect schools ensuring teaching and learning is ongoing,” he stated.
