Zambezi DC happy with relief food distribution

Zambezi District Commissioner Simeon Machayi has lauded the ongoing relief food distribution as a success.

Mr. Machayi noted that lack of any reported issues during his assessment of the wards and communities where relief food has been distributed indicate that the program is going on well.

He expressed satisfaction with the positive reception from the communities he visited, commending the government’s efforts in addressing the hunger crisis caused by the prolonged drought.

Mr. Machayi also commended the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) for their diligent approach to the relief distribution exercise.

Speaking to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) today, the district commissioner, who also serves as the Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Committee, urged farmers to prioritize their households over selling their produce.

He emphasized the importance of selling only surplus produce to safeguard their households’ interests and cautioned against being swayed by market prices offered by buyers, advising them to be cautious of potential manipulative practices.

Mr. Machayi encouraged farmers to sell their products to the Food Reserve Agency to ensure food security for the nation and avoid dealing with unauthorized buyers.

In a related development, District Disaster Management Coordinator Taylor Hamukamba disclosed that out of the 16 wards in the district, 11 have received relief maize, with over 3,000 bags distributed so far.
