Samfya welcomes establishment of voters registration centre

Variousstakeholders in Samfya district say the establishment of continuous registration of voter’s centres in the area will eased their ability to get registered as voters.

This came to light after the ECZ officially opened a voter registration centre in Samfya which has made the district tenth district to be added for permanent Continuous Registration of Voter Centres in the region.

Speaking on behalf of Samfya residents, Reverend Gideon Kaputo said Samfya district is privileged to be among the added districts in the ongoing phased exercise by the ECZ to establish voter registration centres in the country.

Rev. Kaputo in an interview with ZANIS said the Commission had sensitised Key stakeholders in Samfya over the value of having a s voter registration centre within its placement.

He said as members of the clergy issues such as voter apathy are sources of concern hence the relief and excitement over the opening of a CRV for the locals.

Rev. Kaputo explained that with the coming of a stationed CRV point, the public will have an opportunity to register easily provided they have a green NRC and are 18 years of age and above thereby equally reducing potential cases of apathy emanating from not being a registered voter.

And officially opening the centre The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Representative James Mwaba emphasised the need for people to utilise the facility to ease their accessibility to register as voters under a continuous exercise.

Mr. Mwaba said the additional 10 districts symbolises a milestone in the electoral Commissions’ strive to fully roll out continuous registration of voter access points across the country.

He said the ECZ is optimistic that people will utilise the facilities being taken closer to them to get registered as voters.

Under the current phase 10 district the latest addition under the CRV centres include, Samfya District in Luapula Province, Mumbwa District in Central Province, Chingola District in the Copperbelt Province, Petauke District in Eastern Province, Kafue District in Lusaka Province, Mpika district in Muchinga Province, Mporokoso District in Northern Province, Mwinilunga in North Western Province, Monze in the Southern Province and Kaoma district in the Western province.

Luapula Provincial Electoral Officer Vincent Chabala said the opening of the continuous registration of voters centre in Samfya is a constitutional fulfilment by the ECZ to establish such facilities countrywide for ease of reach by the general public.
