FOOTBALL Administrators in Kasama District of Northern Province have joined the rest of the country in congratulating the Zambia Women’s National Team Captain, Barbara Banda, for winning the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, Mungwi Hotspurs Football Club President, Chikonde Mbalazi says the 24-year-old Zambian Striker deserves the award, stating that she has had an extraordinary year in her career, showcasing her exceptional talent at both club and national team levels.
Mbalazi cited Banda’s remarkable performances with Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League and the Zambia Copper Queens at the Paris 2024 Olympics, saying these have earned her the recognition.
And Teta Football Club President, Isidore Tetamashimba, charged that Banda’s winning of the CAF award is a testament to her hard work and dedication.
“Barbra has made us all proud with her incredible skills and determination. This award is just the beginning for her,” said Tetamashimba.
He expressed happiness that the award will inspire many young footballers across the country to aspire to greatness.
“Barbra is a true role model for aspiring footballers, and this award will even motivate more as many young footballers will be inspired more,” added Tetamashimba.
And Soccer Analyst, Chat Kasengele, noted that this success will bring greater attention to the country’s football potential.
Pastor Kasengele added that with the world now watching, Zambia’s football fraternity eagerly anticipates the continued rise of Banda and the positive impact she will have on the country’s presence in global sports.
