DMMU distributes white maize in Kasempa

The Disaster Management and Mitigation unit (DMMU) in Kasempa district has distributed about 70 metric tonnes of white maize under the relief maize distribution program.

Northwestern province permanent secretary Colonel  Grandson Katambi   says that 1,453 bags of the 4,000 bags allocated to Kasempa district had been distributed.

This came to light when Col ( Rtd)  Katambi paid a courtesy call on district commission to check on the distribution of maize to vulnerable people and food for work.

“Kasempa (DMMU) has been allocated a consignment consists of 4000 x 50 Kilograms bags of white maize of which about 1453 has been distributed,” he said.

Col Katambi expressed optimism that the distribution will help communities to enhance food security following low yields in the last farming season due to drought’s experienced. 

“Am here to check on the progress being made on the drought distribution of food security as we be aware Kasempa is beacon hub of food security, “He said.

With the help of Caritas who are handling the distribution of relief food, the program is expected to conclude soon until another application is made for another consignment for the district. 

Meanwhile Kasempa district commission, Hyden Songezha praised government for ensuring equality in distribution of relief food in Kasempa.

“We want to commend the government for coming up with this important intervention to cushion the impact of droughts experienced last farming season,” Mr Songezha said.

He urged all government institutions in the district to monitor the works done by beneficiaries of food for work in the area.
