LEADERSHIP wrangles have hit Nkana Mine Recreation Centre, a facility meant to serve the community in Kitwe District on the Copperbelt Province.
Speaking with ZANIS, Mary Chela who is a former director and a member of the recreation center accused the current Board of Directors of abrogating the recreation centre’s constitution.
Ms Nakazwe alleged that according to the constitution general meetings are supposed to be held annually, alleging that since the current leadership took office in 2019 they have never held any general meetings or presented any financial reports to the members.
She alleged that whenever members have demanded access to financial reports, the directors have refused to submit them, adding that whenever elections are called, the board of directors stops them from taking place.
Ms Nakazwe stated that members are concerned that the building housing the centre is rapidly deteriorating with no renovation works being undertaken to restore the building.
She accused the board of directors of working for their own personal interests instead of serving the community.
“They have even dismissed all workers at the center without settling their terminal benefits,” Ms. Nakazwe alleged.
Ms Nakazwe alleged that the current leadership’s mandate expired on 3rd September 2023, according to the constitutional guidelines.
“Despite this, the Directors continue to deny other members access to leadership changes and are still claiming that their term has not expired,” she said.
But when contacted for a comment by ZANIS, Nkana Mine Recreation Centre Director, Rose Ifwa declined to give a statement.
