POLICE in Lundazi district of Eastern province are holding a 21 year old man who is alleged to have defiled his 11 year old niece.

Vingi Mtonga, found himself on the wrong side of the law after he took advantage of a minor he shared a house with and had carnal knowledge of her.

This was after his mother left the house to spend a night at a funeral house.

Rosent Mtonga, 65, of Muzenga Village in Mwase Chiefdom of Lundazi District told police that on December 15, 2024, she left the house to sleep at a funeral house when her son entered the minor’s bed room and had carnal knowledge of her.

The suspect is a brother to the victim’s biological father.

Eastern Province Commissioner of Police, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in an interview today.

Mr Mweemba stated that the alleged defiler is currently in police custody awaiting court appearance.

In another development, a woman of Kantumbo Village in Chief Mwase’s area in Lundazi District died on the spot after being struck by lightning.

Mirriam Manzi, 33, met her fate on December 15, 2024 around 19:30 hours at Muzenga Village.

Her brother-in-law, Amos Chikombola, 28, of the same abode reported the matter at Mwase Police station when he took the body of the deceased as a ‘Brought in Dead case’.

Mr Mweemba has also confirmed the matter to ZANIS in Lundazi.

The body of the deceased has since been interred.
