2400 to benefit from Wetland Food Security Pack programme

The department of Community Development in Mongu District has identified 2,400 households to benefit from the wetland Food Security Pack programme.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Mongu today, Assistant District Community Development Officer, Charity Banda disclosed that from the 2,400 beneficiaries, 600 will get okra and accompanying chemicals to grow it.

“ Mongu District has identified 2,400 beneficiaries of the emergency wetland component under the Food Security Pack (FSP). Mongu allocated 2,400 caseload,” Ms Banda said.

She said 1,000 beneficiaries will each receive five kilograms of white and orange maize, one bag of D-compound and one bag of Urea.

Ms Banda said 800 beneficiaries will receive five kilograms of orange maize accompanied with legumes such as beans, one bag of D-compound and one bag of Urea.

She said that the distribution exercise will begin as soon as the District receives all inputs.

“So, for the target date of distribution, we have not been told yet because we have not received all the inputs we are expecting to receive.” Ms Banda explained.

The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services will this year implement the Emergency Wetlands Food Security Pack Programme to cushion the impact of the drought that the country has experienced.
