Zambezi selects over 2000 households for FSP

The Department of Community Development in Zambezi District has announced the selection of 2,700 households to participate in the Emergency Food Security Pack Wetland program.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Zambezi today, Assistant District Community Development Officer, Dimus Lukwesa revealed that each beneficiary will receive essential agricultural inputs, including one bag of urea, one bag of D-Compound, and a 5-kilogram bag of white maize seed.

“The district has identified 2,700 beneficiaries for the emergency wetland component under the Food Security Pack (FSP), with an additional 700 beneficiaries from traditional Wetlands also set to benefit from this year’s allocation, ” said Mr Lukwesa.

Mr Lukwesa further said that the department has earmarked 700 beneficiaries to benefit from the traditional wetland component, where recipients will receive white maize, D-compound, urea, and a variety of vegetables.

He added that the distribution process is scheduled to commence promptly upon the receipt of all inputs.

Mr Lukwesa emphasized the importance of utilizing the inputs for their intended purpose and not for resale, underscoring the program’s objective to enhance food security for vulnerable households.

He said beyond addressing food security and nutrition, the program aims to alleviate the hunger crisis exacerbated by prolonged drought conditions.

Zambezi District is actively implementing the Emergency Wetlands Food Security Pack Programme to mitigate the adverse effects of the country’s recent drought challenges.
