OFFICERS from Mufumbwe Town Council and the Department of Health have seized food items belonging to Capital Fisheries costing over K130,000.
The goods seized include boxes of fish and packages of sausages which were stocked for sale at Mufumbwe Capital Fisheries Depot.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Council Public Relations Officer, Billy Chitila, explained that the goods were seized on the grounds that they got wasted due to delay in delivering them to Mufumbwe depot from Lusaka.
“We wish to encourage capital fisheries to make sure that goods like that should be transported at the right time so that people purchase them before they go bad,” he said.
Mr Chitila further said it is the mandate of the local authority to seize goods which are capable of endangering the lives of people.
“We are mandated according to the food safety act no.7 of 2019 to seize the items at the capital fisheries depot that went bad which are not fit for human consumption,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mufumbwe Capital Fisheries Depot Sales Man, Joseph Kaholo, assured residents of continuous supply of goods despite the inconvenience to its customers and the loss the company has gone through.
He said the fish and sausages went bad due to reasons beyond the company’s control.
“The company will continue supplying good quality of the items as it has been doing despite the loss encountered which is beyond the company’s control,” he said.
