Kaoma Council disappointment with Contractor’s poor workmanship

Kaoma Town Council Chairperson, Tauzen Libinga has expressed disappointment with local authority officers for defending contractors that are doing shoddy works on some Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in the District.

Mr Libinga wondered as to how some contractors known for poor workmanship are allowed to continue working on projects without termination.

He was speaking today during an extraordinary council meeting held at civic centre chambers.

Mr Libinga said he is displeased that despite the council having technocrats to monitor contractors, shoddy works and delayments on completing projects are still being entertained.

“Decampaigning has already started, council officers are letting us down, I feel officers are shielding contractors who are not performing well. We have technocrats that monitor these projects, why should we continue to have shoddy work,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Libinga has called on councillors to show resilience and raise the bar higher despite the difficulties experienced as a result of the drought to satisfy the residents.

He noted that councillors were elected to offer a service to the community, adding that despite the prevailing circumstances, they need to satisfy the community.

He has since assured the residents of Kaoma of continuous service delivery without interruption.

“Despite 2024 being a challenging year because of the drought, we still need to provide the service to our people, we need to raise the bar higher,” Mr Libinga said.

The civic leader also took time to highlight some of the positives recorded under CDF from January 2024 to date such as the coming in part of the heavy-duty road maintenance equipment, the awarding of grants and loans to women and youth clubs, among others.

He also mentioned the purchasing of sports kits aimed at enhancing sports cohesion in the district.
