Kasama DC guards against medical pilferage

Kasama District Commissioner, Annie Paul says the district is working hard to prevent theft of medicine and medical supplies in health facilities.

Mrs Paul said the district has since established a task force to look at the security of medicine and medical supplies.

She said this will help to tighten the security of the drugs and prevent pilferage.

Mrs Paul has since urged the task force to submit timely reports on its activities.

She said the formulation of the district task force on security of medicine and medical supplies has seen an increased detection of theft of medicines, as evidenced by the number of prosecutions made.

The District Commissioner said government is ensuring that people have access to essential drugs, by making them available in health facilities.

She said this when she addressed members of the Kasama Taskforce.

Kasama District Health Director, Charles Chungu said the formulation of the task force has enhanced the security of medicine and medical supplies in health facilities in the district.

Dr Chungu said the task force is conducting inspections of public health facilities and other private pharmacies in the area.

He said the ministry is also sharing information on how to curb money laundering activities among health workers in high-volume facilities.

Dr Chungu has since called on stakeholders to support the task force, stating that it has been established for the benefit of the community.

He said the fight against drug theft is not the duty of the Ministry of Health alone, but all critical government departments and agencies- ZANIS
