YOUTHS in Kasama District have welcomed the reintroduction of the Zambia National Service (ZNS) training programme by President Hakainde Hichilema.
Speaking to ZANIS in an interview, one of the youths, Peter Mumba, said the programme is a valuable opportunity for young people to gain practical skills and contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.
Mr Mumba added that the reintroduction of the programme is timely, given the current economic challenges and high unemployment levels among youths.
He has further noted that the programme will help equip youths with survival skills that will enable them to survive amidst challenges.
Another youth, Cecilia Lesho, stated that the national service training will have a positive impact on the community, fostering a sense of responsibility and unity among the youth.
She noted that the programme will empower vulnerable and unskilled youths with life-sustaining skills, thereby providing them with alternative employment opportunities.
Recently, the cabinet approved the return of national service training for youths.
And President Hichilema indicated that the programme will initially start on a voluntary basis but will eventually be compulsory as the economy improves.
