Update on water levels at Lake Kariba

Water levels at Lake Kariba have reduced by 2.59 meters from 479.90 meters in 2023 to 477.31 meters in 2024.

According to an update on Water Levels issued to ZANIS by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), the Lake level is steadily decreasing due to low inflow.

The statement read in part that the usable Live Storage for power generation has reduced by 18.55 percent from 31.09 percent in 2023 to 12.54 percent in 2024.

The statement added that the Usable Live Storage Volume now stands at 8.12 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM) from 20.14BCM in 2023, representing a reduction of 12.02 BCM.

The Kariba Lake is designed to operate between levels 475.50meters and 488.50meters with 0.70meters freeboard for hydropower generation.
