POLICE in Sinazongwe District have apprehended a 39 year old man of Kakulo Village in connection with assaulting a Chinese national.

Southern Province Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka confirmed to ZANIS in Sinazongwe that Webby Munkala has been apprehended for allegedly assaulting a Chinese national and employee of Sezic Coal Mine.

Mr Daka has disclosed that male Wang Wengang aged 42 Crushing Plant Manager at Sezic Coal Mine was allegedly attacked at the gate on his way to the plant by Webby Munkala and three others.

He has confirmed that the incident occurred around 07:00 hours on December 20th, 2024.

According to the police, the suspect was among the people that arrived around 23 hours at the gate which was erected by the Chinese company and was denied entry.

“The gate erected by the Chinese company Sezic Mine is along the road that connects Kayuni Village to Kakulo Village and vehicles are only allowed entry and exit from 06:00 hours to 22:00 hours every day,” he narrated.

He said people arrived yesterday on a light truck laden with various goods at the gate enroute to their village homes but were dumped by the driver who returned to Maamba and left them stranded.

This annoyed the people because they spent their night at the same gate and four attacked Wang Wengang.

Investigations have since been instituted into the matter to identify three other assailants.
