Energy Single Licensing System launched

Energy Minister Peter Kapala says the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the energy sector.

Mr Kapala says the sector has been faced with a number of challenges and that the single licensing system will ease some of the challenges.

He said the single licensing system will reduce physical interaction in the licensing process and in turn improve the efficiency of the process.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kapala said this in a speech read on his behalf by the Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary for Administration Penelope Zyambo during the launch of the Energy Single licensing system in Lusaka today.

The Minister thanked the Copper belt University who developed the system for their dedication and diligence in developing the system.

And speaking at the same event, Energy Regulations Board Chairperson James Banda says the system removes delays in the licensing process and ensures efficiency.

Mr Banda assured that the ERB will do their part in ensuring that the system works for the benefit of all stakeholders involved.

Meanwhile, Association of Power Companies President Sylvester Hibajeene said the system is welcome and will encourage more investments in the sector.

Mr Hibajeene added that the private sector in the industry is willing to work with the government in ensuring that the system is effective and called for a change of mindset and culture in the country towards Energy.

He asserted that the energy crisis that the country is facing should be avoided in the future and that such a development will help improve the energy sector.
