Plan International Zambia has donated 13 bicycles to the Chamuka Village – Led Anti – Gender Based Violence (GBV) One Stop Centre in Chisamba District in Central Province.
Plan International Provincial Programme Manager Margaret Nakamba says the initiative aims to support the one-stop centre in its activities to end GBV in the community.
ZANIS reports that Ms Nakamba reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting community-led initiatives that seek to eradicate vices such as GBV, teen pregnancies, and child marriages.
On receiving the donation, Chief Chamuka of the Lenje people of Chisamba District thanked Plan International Zambia for the gesture.
“Our Anti – GBV Community Based Volunteers have been facing challenges with transportation as they carry out their activities but that is now a thing of the past,” Chief Chamuka said.
He stated that the 13 volunteers have been equipped with knowledge on GBV, adding that they conduct sensitisation programmes in their village zones to raise awareness on the vice.
Chief Chamuka urged the Anti – GBV Community Based Volunteers to intensify their activities now that they have bicycles.
