Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has intensified measures aimed at ensuring public safety during Christmas and the rest of the festive season celebrations.
In an interview with ZANIS, RTSA Public Relations Manager Mukela Mangolwa says the Agency has intensified highway patrols, in order to ensure adherence to safety regulations among motorists.
Mr Mangolwa says that any driver who will be found drunk driving will not be fined but risks their vehicle being impounded and face the courts of law later on.
“We are in the process of introducing the Demerit Point System, so people should understand that when you are impounded and convicted, it means that it starts accumulating towards your demerit point system,” said Mr Mangolwa.
Mr Mangolwa said that motorists who accumulate a certain number of points risks losing their driver licence or suspension
He also added that the Agency has sent out teams to different parts of the country for sensitisation, in order to improve knowledge on road safety.
