Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company innovates

Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company is set to embrace innovation by converting sewer waste into bio fertilizer and gas.

The company’s Managing Director, Ndilakulampa Hamalambo, explains that the development will provide a safer solution for communities which diverts sewer water for gardening  as well as generate additional income through gas production.

This was revealed during a visit by Bluekolding, a Danish utility company, and ZAMNORDIC to Mufulira District, aimed to share insights on Denmark’s advanced sewer waste management practices and explore potential collaboration opportunities.

“ Mulonga is not generating enough income through water and sewerage bills that can be able to sustain it hence the decision to consider production of gas and bio fertilizer, “ he told the meeting.

And Mufulira Mayor, Tanaeli Kamanga said production of bio fertilizer could address some of the challenges posed by synthetic fertilizer such as soil damage.

Mr Kamanga said if innovation is implemented, sewer waste could be used for income generation.

On the other hand  Bluekolding Chief Executive Officer, Per Holm said there is need to utilise the opportunities that the country has in innovative sewer waste management.

Disclosing that his company currently converts sewer waste into electricity and gas, Mr. Holm stressed the need for close collaboration to develop Zambia’s sewer management system.

Meanwhile, ZAMNORDIC Chief Executive Officer, Alfred Mwambala said his company aims to enhance collaboration and investment between Zambia and Nordic countries.
