We are committed to ensure that every child is in a classroom

Government says it is committed to ensure that every child of school going age accesses a classroom.

Ministry of Education permanent Secretary Mr. Joel Kamoko says this is because the New Dawn government remains committed to ensure every child of school going age access a classroom.

Mr. Kamoko says it is the new dawn government’s vision to see all children in school and remain focused towards this agenda.

The minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by  Kezala Mwale, Director Primary Education during the handover of three refurbished classroom blocks at Sinyendeede Community School in Monze District, today.

The structure which includes a state-of-the-art toilet, was rehabilitated by Airtel – Zambia at the cost of more than K300,000.

“As government we remain dedicated and focused to improve the education sector because we believe that education has the power to unlock the potential and give children the support including opportunities that they deserve,” said Mr. Kamoko.

“Government, therefore, wishes to thank the local community, Airtel and ZOCS for this gesture aimed at uplifting school infrastructure for the betterment of our children,” Mr. Kamoko  added.

The PS also urged the local community to guard the school infrastructure against vandalism.

And Airtel Zambia says it remains committed to support government’s efforts to improve the education sector.

Airtel Zambia Managing Director, Hussameldin Baday says his service company is ready to work with government in the education sector through provision of internet connectivity and infrastructure development.

“We are honoured to hand over the refurbished classroom blocks for the children to have a conducive environment to learn from and this whole project cost K300,000.

”   Our future plan is to continue providing free internet services to schools and other school requisites such as school content.

“ As a company we have also done similar projects in other parts of the country, particularly on internet connectivity and school infrastructure in our local communities as part of our corporate social responsibility in supporting the government’s drive to improve the education sector.

“As you are aware, good quality education is important for social economic development and thus a conducive environment is important for delivery of quality education and why we are working with the government and other partners to improve the learning environment in community schools,” he added.

Meanwhile, Monze District Commissioner, Mr. Mwanza Malambo warned the surrounding community to desist from encroaching on the school grounds as the government had future plans to upgrade the school.

Sinyindeede Community School Head teacher Jameson Kahwata  said as a result of early marriages and long distances to nearest schools prompted the community members to start constructing the school in 2008.

Mr.  Kahwata said currently the school has 434 learners and thanked the government for sending six government trained teachers at the institution thus tremendously improving the quality of education delivery.
