CHISAMBA Town Council has embarked on a project to install street lights in the Central Business District (CBD) at a cost of K750,000.

Chisamba Town Council Secretary Chamuka Muwamba says the project will be carried out with funding from Roads license fees under roads grant received from the central government last year.

Mr Muwamba told ZANIS in an interview in Chisamba that the first ever 25 solar street light poles in the district will be installed on a distance coverage of 500 metres.

“Last year, we received a total of K1, 715, 471 roads grant of which we have allocated K749, 764 towards the street lighting project,” Mr Muwamba said.

The funds have already been paid to Eumise Engineering, the company that has been engaged to execute the works.

The works which started in December last year will be implemented in a period of six weeks adding that the district is expected to have street lights by the end of this month.

And Mr Muwamba disclosed that the K332, 000 remaining from the total grant received will be used to improve the township roads.

“We repaired our grader at a cost of K321, 000 from the same money, then we allocated K312, 000 on the rehabilitation of the Chaminuka- Kalangwa road which was in a deplorable state,” he explained.

And a spot check by ZANIS on Chipembi- Zambia Co-operative Federation (ZCF) road today found Eumise employees working on the ground where street poles will be erected.
