POLICE INVESTIGATES STOCK THEFT IN MWANACHINGWALA CHIEFDOM

POLICE in Mazabuka are investigating a case of stock theft in which a cow valued at K10,000 belonging to Kasuko Mwanachingwala was stolen and slaughtered by unknown people.

Southern Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Moono Namalongo has confirmed that a case of stock theft of a cow belonging to Kasuko was reported at Mazabuka Central Police Station and a docket case has been opened with no arrests made.

Mr Namalongo indicates that Mr Mwanachingwala’s cow bearing brand mark P3/w6, was stolen by unknown people and slaughtered within the village Himoonga in Mwanachingwala chiefdom.

He explains that Mr Mwanachingwala conducted a preliminary search around the kraal when he discovered that one of his cows was missing on the morning of 7th January, 2025.

“He (Mr Kasuko) found shoe prints and footprints which led him to a place within the village where it is believed the cow was slaughtered. Half the carcasses and the skin of the cow in question bearing brand mark P3/W6 was found,” he said.

Mr Namalongo says Mr Mwanachingwala then reported the case to Mazabuka Central Police where a docket for the case was opened.

He says the police then visited the scene where they recovered the beef and skin which had been retained at the police station awaiting court disposal.

And Mazabuka District Commissioner, Oliver Mulomba, who recalled the murder of a suspect of the same theft by an angry mob in the area last year, is saddened by the recurring cases of stock theft in the chiefdom.

He has since charged the police to intensify patrols in the area in order to bring an end to the vice.
