Over 700 households to benefit from FSP wetland component-Chasefu

The Department of Community Development in Chasefu district will this year start implementing a wetland component of the Food Security Pack (FSP) Programme.

District Community Development Officer, Joseph Mwanza says 700 vulnerable but viable households are expected to benefit from the programme this year.

Speaking during District Food Security Pack (DFSP) stakeholders meeting in Chasefu, Mr. Mwanza said a pack was slightly different from rainfed, as Wetland beneficiaries are expected to receive 1x50kg bag of Basel dressing and top dressing fertilisers each, 1x5kg of either white or orange maize seed and vegetable seed.

He said sensitision, listing, validation and selection of beneficiaries is expected to be done in seventeen days’ time from now, while inputs are expected to be in the district by end of next month.

Mr. Mwanza was however quick to mention that the programme will be implemented in one ward, adding that 100 packs will be given to each selected community Welfare Assistance Committee (CWAC).

Meanwhile, the district FSP Committee has resolved to implement the programme in Chaboli and Luwerezi wards, because of its availability of water bodies.

The committee further resolved to share 700 packs to three CWACs, yet to be identified from each ward where the Programme will be implemented.

And District Food Security Pack Committee Chairperson, Alfonso Kahalawe reminded members that the successful Implementation of the programme depended on their support.

The department of Community Development in Chasefu, is currently implementing Alternative Livelihood Intervention (ALI); pass on gift, Rainfed and now wetland being the latest component of the FSP programme.
