Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Collins Nzovu says the ministry has intensified interventions to protect public health and ensure access to safe water and sanitation, amid the heightened risks of the cholera outbreak.

Mr Nzovu said that his ministry is providing necessary funds and expertise to empower Commercial utilities to address the water challenges especially in the identified cholera hotspots.

He revealed that Commercial Utilities are employing super chlorination techniques to ensure safe drinking water, exceeding the standard chlorine levels to prevent post-contamination in water networks and storage facilities.

“These efforts demonstrate the resilience and dedication of the water sector to safeguard public health during this critical time, Commercial Utilities continue to innovate and collaborate, ensuring communities receive the support they need,” Mr Nzovu stated.

He further indicated that the ministry has been undertaking key infrastructure projects in selected utilities, including the Kafulafuta water supply system project under Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company which targets to benefit one million people in Ndola, Luanshya, Masaiti and Mpongwe.

The Minister added the integrated small towns water supply and sanitation project under Luapula and Chambeshi Water and Sanitation Supply Companies which have been completed and to be commissioned this month.
