OVER 10 THOUSAND BENEFITS FROM THE CASH FOR WORK IN KAFUE

The Local Authority in Kafue District has paid about K 6.3 million to over 10,000 beneficiaries under the Cash for Work drought response programme.

Kafue Town Council Secretary Bupe Mutanya confirmed to ZANIS that the programme has recorded overwhelming response from the residents since inception last year in September.

Mr Mutanya explained that the programme has enabled the local authority to channel resources to other needy areas following the additional funds from government since the start of the Cash for Work Programme.

The Cash for Work programme is meant to mitigate the effects of the drought experienced during the 2023/2024 farming season in the district by providing the beneficiaries with an opportunity to earn a living through various community work activities

“The programme is very beneficial to the residents of Kafue as evidenced by the turnout of the people participating in the programme and the vulnerable people are also working to raise money,” Mr Mutanya said.

Mr Mutanya highlighted works that have been completed to include molding blocks for community projects, vegetation control, Garbage collection, road opening, and drainage cleaning.

And Shikoswe Ward Development Committee member Betty Nankamba stated that the cash-for-work programme has empowered youths who were roaming the streets.
