KAWAMBWA COUNCIL SPENDS K5.9 MILLION CDF FOR 5 MATERNITY ANNEXES

Construction of five maternity annexes in Kawambwa district funded under Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at the combined cost of over K 5, 9 million has advanced.

Kawambwa Town Council Public Relations Officer, Joel Kashi says the maternity annexes which are being constructed in Kawambwa Central and Pambashe Constituencies respectively, have reached 80 percent completion.

ZANIS reports that Mr Kashi named the martenity annexes whose construction is being funded under the 2024 CDF as Shikalaba, Kapako, Zakeyo which are in Kawambwa Central and Buyaka and Kota located in Pambashe Constituency.

Mr Kashi explained that once operational the maternal annexes will ease access to quality maternal services for improved maternal and newborn health outcomes in the district as they will lessen the distances expectant mothers cover to access maternal services.

“Currently the district does not have enough maternal facilities and expectant mothers are subjected to walk long distances for them to access maternal care services,” Mr Kashi said.

Mr Kashi stressed that the Local Authority has been monitoring the projects to ensure quality works and for the annexes to be delivered on time by respective contractors.
