LATE former Zambia National Netball Team Vice-Captain Orient Mweetwa was put to rest at Nachaiteka village graveyard in Chief Chipalo Chiefdom of Luwingu district in Northern province.
Mweetwa, aged 29, was put to rest on Sunday.
Scores of Luwingu residents, officers from Kasama, and Lusaka from all walks of life attended the burial of the famous Zambia National netball team player who passed away after an illness in Luwingu district.
ZANIS sports reports that the funeral procession started from the bread of life church international where mourners paid their last respect for the deceased.
She passed away on January 15, 2025 at Luwingu district hospital.
And speaking in an interview with ZANIS sports after burial, Director and Cultural Affairs, Didno Kifita said Zambia has lost an exceptionally talented spokeswoman and also a committed officer.
Kifita said Orient contributed greatly to Zambia national netball performance during her time she was a player adding she participated in the World and Africa netball cups as well as the local derby.
He has since urged the young people to embrace their God given talents in order to contribute to the development of all sorts sports disciplines in the country.
And Zambia Commissioner General of Zambia Correction Service (ZCS), Frederick Chilukutu described the deceased Mweetwa as a great person whose impact helped the national netball team.
Chilukutu revealed that the late Mweetwa underwent military training under the Zambia correction service in 2019 at Nyango staff training college and after that she was employed as wardress in 2020 in Kabwe.
The Commissioner General said this in a speech read on his behalf by Northern Region Deputy commanding officer, senior assistant commissioner Ivor Musumali.
Sportspersons from Lusaka, Kabwe, Kasama, Luwingu and Lupososhi senior government officials, men and women in uniform, the Clergy relatives and Friends witnessed the burial.
