The Economic and Financial Crimes Division of the Subordinate Court, has forfeited to the State former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo’s four houses worth US $378 thousand dollars alongside a black Range Rover valued at K3 million which were illicitly acquired.
The forfeiture comes in the wake of a criminal conviction-based forfeiture application made by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to forfeit the properties following the conviction of the former Kabushi lawmaker.
This was contained in a statement issued to ZANIS today by the Anti-Corruption Commission, Head of Corporate Communications, Timothy Moono.
Mr Moono said that on Monday January 27, 2025, the presiding Magistrate’s ruling, Faides Hamaundu considered the application made by the State to forfeit the properties in count two, seven, eight, nine and 10 and having convicted the first respondent on count two, seven, eight, nine and 10, found that the properties in the said counts were tainted as established before the court.
He said that with the foregoing, the magistrate ordered that the properties be forfeited to the state.
Mr Moono added that the Commission is delighted with the ruling noting that it will not relent to pursue and recover any property illicitly acquired.
He said the Commission in 2022, had arrested and charged Lusambo alongside his wife for corrupt acquisition of properties, reasonably suspected of being proceeds of crime.
Mr Moono further explained that on November 8, 2024, the Economic Financial Crimes Court convicted Lusambo and sentenced him to four years imprisonment with hard labour for the same offence and acquitted his wife on all the charges.
