FAZ ASPIRANTS FILE IN NOMINATIONS

Aspiring candidates for the 2025 Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Presidency have begun submitting their nominations for the upcoming elections set for March 29, 2025.

Aspiring Candidate, Godfrey Chikumbi, who officially filed his nomination at Football House in Lusaka today emphasized his commitment to revamping the football administration in the country, highlighting key areas he intends to focus on if elected.

Speaking after filing his nomination, Chikumbi explained that he opted for the physical submission, as opposed to the online filing, saying the digital process was tedious.

He expressed confidence in his decision and commended FAZ for ensuring a well-structured nomination process.

“It was important for me to personally come and file my nomination because the online system was challenging to navigate,” he stated.

ZANIS reports that Chikumbi outlined his vision for Zambian football, emphasizing the need for trained personnel to manage the sport effectively.

He noted that most players do not receive the recognition they deserve and stressed the importance of establishing a dedicated scouting department.

“We have not invested enough in scouting. The scouting department is missing, and this is affecting our ability to develop raw talent in the country,” he said.

Addressing the state of football facilities, Chikumbi expressed deep concern over the lack of infrastructure in rural areas.

“It pains me to see the lack of facilities in rural communities. Football is not a preserve for the rich, it should be accessible to everyone,” he stated.

He promised to enhance sporting facilities to accommodate rural communities and create equal opportunities for all players.

Mr Chikumbi also highlighted the critical role of coaches in football development, urging them to act as father figures to young players.

“We need to preach reconciliation and not take sides. Coaches play a vital role, and we must ensure they continue to guide and mentor players beyond just training sessions,” he emphasized.

He further urged his fellow candidates to avoid unnecessary court battles and instead resolve disputes amicably.

Chikumbi reassured the football community that his leadership would prioritize the players over administrative politics.

“Footballers are the ones who matter, not association presidents. We must focus on them, provide proper facilities, and ensure the right personnel are in place,” he noted.

He also expressed optimism about the future of Zambian football, citing the immense talent within the country, particularly among the Chipolopolo and Copper Queens.
