Solwezi intensifies its disinfection exercise

Under its intensified keep  Zambia clean, green and health campaign, Solwezi   Municipal Council has disinfected eight local markets to make them conducive for business.

Council Assistant Public Relation Manager Esther Chirwa says under the same campaign, her council has continued its efforts to disinfect local markets thereby ensuring safety and hygiene for business.

Ms Chirwa said this in a press statement made available to ZANIS in Solwezi on Monday.

“Throughout January, the Local Authority has disinfected eight markets as part of an ongoing initiative aimed at fostering a safe environment for residents,” she said.

Ms Chirwa maintained that the local Authority seeks to reduce the spread of infectious diseases such as cholera and maintain public health standards.

“The markets disinfected so far include, Kyawama, Mitec, Main Market, Kazomba, Messenger, Wisdom, Kandemba, and both Muzabula A and B.

“These high traffic areas, crucial to the local economy, were prioritised due to their significance in daily commercial activities,” she noted.

The disinfection process serves as a precautionary action to protect both residents and visitors, she said.

She at the same time urged the general public to cooperate fully with Health Inspectors, especially if temporary closures or restrictions are implemented.

Ms Chirwa has since reminded residents to adhere to health guidelines, including regular hand washing, to help curb the spread of diseases.
