CHIEF KAFWIMBI GIVES ORDER TO DEMOLISH ALL THATCHED TOILETS

Senior Chief Kafwimbi of Isoka District has ordered the immediate destruction of all grass-fenced toilets in his chiefdom as the district intensifies efforts to achieve Open Defecation-Free (ODF) status by March 2025.

Speaking during a courtesy call by the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Taskforce at his palace, Chief Kafwimbi said makeshift toilets collapse during the rainy season, posing serious health risks.

The traditional leader has since warned that households without proper toilets would face both traditional and legal action.

“We cannot continue talking about sanitation while people still use unsafe structures. All grass-fenced toilets must be demolished immediately,” he said.

“If anyone is struggling to build a toilet, bring them to the palace. I will personally help them construct one,” he added.

And Group Village Headman, Silvester Siame commended the taskforce for its efforts and urged all households to comply with sanitation standards.

“Sanitation is a responsibility we all share, no home should be without a proper toilet,” he said.

Meanwhile, a resident, Mwinji Nakaponda praised the government and traditional leadership for prioritising hygiene.

“A clean toilet is not just about convenience, it protects us from diseases,” she said.

Isoka District, through the CLTS task force, has continued to inspect homes in both Chief Katyetye and Snr Chief Kafwimbi’s areas as it pushes toward its Open Free Defecation (ODF) by March 2025 goal.
