The Zambia Army command has called for the formulation of a robust tactical team that can address numerous types of critical incidents along the Zambia – Angola border.
Deputy Army Commander and Chief of Staff, Major General Luswepo Sinyinza says members of the District Joint Operations Committee (DJOC) must consider formulating the team so as to address any arising cases of insecurity along the border.
ZANIS reports that Major General Sinyinza was responding to an appeal made by Chavuma District Commissioner Geoffrey Kasonda who earlier on called for increased patrol at border post to safeguard the lives of people.
The general said he understands that Chavuma District has a porous border with Angola and monitoring the border can be difficult.
“Therefore, there is a need for all law enforcement agencies to enhance measures aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of all residents.
“I understand this is a porous border, a well known border and monitoring is a bit of challenge, it is up to the DJOC you know this team, the police, the District Intelligence Officer (D.I.O) to come up with a robust tactical team that can push for tactical services related to numerous types of critical incidents including but not limited to smuggling in fuel, illegal timber dealings among other activities that are deemed as a threat to the community’s well being,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kasonda further advised the security wing to consider opening up a mess not only for income generation but for the officers’ socialisation after work.
Mr Kasonda has further appreciated and thanked the Zambia Army for continued cooperation and support they have been rendering to Chavuma District.
‘’Am appealing to consider opening the officers’ mess. At one point there was a request to open one mess at one of the council places but that request has been turned down, there is a need for your institution to reconsider opening it up again for income generation as well as allowing officers to socialise.
“And also to reconsider bringing the army truck back again as that truck was not only benefitting the officers but also the community,’’ Mr Kasonda appealed.
