National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Chief States Advocate says the Authority has recovered more than US$34 Million worth of property acquired from illegal activities in 2024.
Speaking during a special edition of ‘The Lens’, a programme on ZANIS channel from the Copperbelt Province, Ms Nkumbiza Mumba, disclosed that once properties are forfeited they are handed over to the Ministry of Finance.
Ms Mumba further indicated that there are 21 agencies under the Inter-Agency Cooperation and Coordination Framework Technical Committee working to combat financial crimes, stressing the need for collaboration to yield good results.
“As law enforcement agencies we need to work in a coordinated manner,” She said.
Ms Mumba noted that investigations are expensive especially those that are financial in nature, hence the need for Inter -Agency Cooperation and Coordination Frame work to come together to fight financial crimes.
She stressed that asset recovery requires teamwork by all Agencies to effectively investigate the financial crimes.
Ms Mumba stated that other stakeholders who take care of the vulnerable people in society also benefit from the forfeited items.
She hopes that government should in future establishes a body that will be able to administer the assets.
