Luapula Chief’s Council Chairperson, Chief Chisunka, has commended government for inviting bidders to tender for the construction of Samfya -Kasaba and Nchelenge – Chienge Roads.
Chief Chisunka has observed that these two roads are economical in the province and once worked on it will boost economic activities.
He points out that Nchelenge – Chienge road will help to boost economic activities in the province as more trucks from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) carrying copper will be able to frequently use the route.
ZANIS reports that the Chief indicated that due to the poor state of the road, some truckers are avoiding to use the route for fear of getting stuck in the mud.
Chief Chisunka explained that the step taken by government to invite contractors to bid for these two roads gives hope to the people of Luapula Province who have yearned for a good road network in the area.
“During my 24 years as a chief, people in Luapula have been complaining about the Nchelenge -Chienge road as it has been in a bad state for so long,” he said.
The Luapula Chief’s Council Chairperson further added that the Musaila – Luwingu road will connect Luapula to Northern Province and that this will open more business opportunities.
Chief Chisunka said the Musaila – Luwingu road will make it easier for farmers to transport their agricultural produce to other provinces like Lusaka and Coppertbelt.
“With good road infrastructure in the province, our people will be able to grow their businesses and that will help to grow the province’s gross domestic product,” he noted.
The traditional leader said that as Chiefs in the province, they are happy that government has finally decided to work on the roads.
“The Republican President Hakainde Hichilema promised us that his government will work on these two roads and we are seeing it happening now,” he said.
The Chief further urged whoever will be given the contract to do a good job and within the stipulated time.
He added that traditional leaders in the province want to see roads which will stand the test of time.
Last month the Road Development Agency (RDA) called bidders to tender for the Musaila – Luwingu and Nchelenge -Chienge roads.
