Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Gabriel Pollen says management has engaged former National Coordinators in the country to help address the imminent drought situation in the country.

Dr Pollen says John Mwanza and Dominiciano Mulenga who served as heads of DMMU between 2002 and 2012 will help the institution to formulate a robust and comprehensive response and recovery plan aimed at fighting the dry spell.

He said the two, come with a wealth of knowledge and experience having faced and dealt with different types of disasters during their time. 

ZANIS reports that Dr. Pollen was speaking at a press briefing held at DMMU offices in Lusaka.

Dr Pollen said the team will be able to draw important lessons from the former heads who served government diligently

He disclosed that DMMU has activated different clusters and platforms to draw capacities from different stakeholders.

Dr Pollen stressed that there is need to mop out all available resources both material and human as guided by President Hakainde Hichilema in order to deal with the situation effectively. 

Meanwhile, Dr Pollen said several stakeholders and cooperating partners have come on board to support the government amidst the crisis.

President Hakainde Hichilema last week declared the current ongoing dry spell situation that has affected several parts of the country as a disaster and national emergency.
