Chasefu women urged to report GBV cases

Women in Chasefu District have been urged to report cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) to relevant authorities.

Emusa Police Officer In-charge, Andrew Matonga, says GBV cases do not only affect married women but also those in other relationships including girlfriend and boyfriend relationships.

Mr Matonga adds that this is due to the vulnerability that comes with such relationships.

ZANIS reports that Mr Matonga said this in Chasefu that assault, property grabbing, rape or sex on promissory note, child abuse and marrying off young girl children as some of the forms of GBV that need to be reported.

“GBV cases can be reported to the police, Social Welfare, Health, DC’s offices, School Guidance and Counselling Department, Constituency offices and to the Chief,” he guided.

Meanwhile, Mr Matonga warned that marrying off a school-going underage girl child carries a mandatory minimum jail sentence of 15 years.

He also encouraged men to team up and protect the lives and image of women and girls who are key partners in development.

Meanwhile, Mr Matonga said police in the district will roll out GBV community sensitisations to create awareness to the public.
