Western Province Police investigating two murder cases

Police in Western Province are investigating separate incidences of murder of two men and attempted murder of another person by unknown people in three districts of the province.

Western Province Police Commanding Officer, David Chileshe, has told ZANIS in an interview in Mongu that police received two cases of murder from Senanga and Mwandi Districts where two men were shot dead by unknown people.  

Mr Chileshe narrated that Senanga Police Station received a report of murder on 17th February, 2025 in which Luanda Susiku aged 54 of Luehumba area in Nang’andu village, under Chief Mwanamwale was murdered by unknown person who shot at him using an unknown type of firearm.  

“We wish to report that Senanga Police Station in Western Province of the Republic of Zambia received a report of murder which was reported on 17th February, 2025 at 08:15 hours. The incident occurred yesterday February 16th, 2025, around 21:00 hours in Luehumba area, village Nang’andu about 140 kilometres east of Senanga. 

“The report was from a phone call by a Mr Suya Mwendabai aged 35 a teacher at Luehumba Primary School, who also hails from village Nasikona under Chief Sakuya, of Nalolo District, who reported on behalf of the state that Mr Luanda Susiku aged 54 of Luehumba area also from village Nang’andu Chief Mwanamwale, district Senanga was murdered by unknown person who shot at him using an unknown type of firearm. The matter is under investigations,” he said.

Mr Chileshe further said police received another case of murder from Mwandi District in which a Namibian national fisherman, Kenneth Mukolofu Kamwi, aged 42 from Mbile village, District Kabe was murdered by unknown people in Mwandi royal village on February 16th, 2025, and was found dead in the morning on the streets. 

Mr Chileshe said the deceased allegedly crossed into Zambia on the 15th of February 2025, to visit relatives after he had done some fishing in the river and in the night of 15th he went to drink with his friends but never went back home. 

He stated that the deceased sustained bruises on the neck and he was found lying face down on the street, adding that the body of the deceased was deposited at Mwandi Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem as investigations continue to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

“We also received another report of murder reported in Mwandi at Mwandi Police Station on 16th February, 2025, at about 06:45 hours which occurred on 15th February, 2025 between 22:00 hours and 05:00 hours, 16th February, 2025 at Mwandi royal village.

“In this matter, Mr Siyanga Lubinda aged 38 of Mwandi Royal village who hails from village Mwandi, Chief Aibeliwe, District Mwandi, reported that his uncle, a Kenneth Mukolofu Kamwi aged aged 42 a Namibian fisherman of Luhonono area, who also hails from village Mbile and District Kabe was murdered by unknown people in Mwandi royal village. The deceased sustained bruises on the neck and he was found lying face down in the streets in the morning. Police have commenced investigations in the matter and the body of the deceased was deposited at Mwandi Mission Hospital awaiting postmortem,” Mr Chileshe indicated. 

Meanwhile, Mr Chileshe also added that police received a case of attempted murder from Kaoma District which was reported at Kaoma Central Police Station in which Nyambe Lubeko aged 84 of the of Kalumwange area, who hails from Masima village, Chief Mwanamungela, Kalabo District was shot at by unknown persons who used an unknown type of firearm but strongly suspected to be a short gun which caused the victim to sustain seven small gunshot entry wounds on his back and two on his head. 

The Provincial Police Chief disclosed that the victim is receiving medical treatment at Kaoma District Hospital and that his condition is stable. 

“We also wish to report that Kaoma Central Police Station received a case of attempted murder which was reported on 16th February, 2025 at about 14:15 hours at Kaoma Town Centre Police Post which occurred on 15th February, 2025 at about 20:00 hours in Kalumwange area in which a Mr Simakando Lubeko aged 38 of village Masima Chief Mwanamungela, Kalabo District reported that his father Nyambe Lubeko aged 84 of the same aboard was shot at by unknown persons who used an unknown type of firearm but strongly suspected to be a short gun which caused the victim to sustain seven small gunshot entry wounds on his back and two on his head. 

“The same suspected bows of bullets did not exit from the body. The condition of the victim was described by medical personnel as stable. He is admitted to Kaoma District Hospital and police are investigating the matter. No arrest has been made so far, he stated.

Mr Chileshe bemoaned the rise in criminal cases in the province and attributed it to high poverty levels that have affect people in the region as well as unresolved family disputes.
