Kalumeyoyo Pri. gets permanent classroom block

Government has handed over the first ever permanent 1 x 2 classroom block and staff house at Kalumeyoyo Primary School in Kaoma District constructed at a cost of over K400 000, under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

Pupils at the school were learning in a mud and pole structure which was being shared by the learners from grades one to seven.

Officiating at the handover, District Commissioner, Kashina Sheba said the project is a testament to government’s commitment of improving the learning environment for pupils.

“Previous governments did not think Kalumeyoyo needed development, but the new dawn government has remembered you,” she said.

And Mangango Member of Parliament, Luhamba Mwene thanked government for the gesture.

Mr Mwene further encouraged community members to utilize empowerment initiatives provided under CDF such as loans and grants to improve their livelihoods.

The Parliamentarian further called on the community members to participate in the Work for Cash Programme as it is one of the initiatives government has put in place to alleviate hunger caused by the drought.

Kaoma Town Council Human Resource Director, Aison Simwanda who spoke on behalf of Council Secretary, Peter Sati emphasised the importance of education and urged parents to allow their children to attend school.

Nawa Zambwe, a teacher at the school, reported a significant increase in enrollment numbers from 100 to over 200 since the construction of the classroom block.

Mr Zambwe also narrated how difficult it was to teach in an unconducive environment.

“We faced numerous challenges, especially during rainy seasons, with temporal structures leaking,” he said.

Government also handed over a 1×3 classroom block at Kafwasonyi Primary School last week.
