Mbekise Ward Councilor, Ali Likomba has hailed the government for introducing the Cash for Work programme
in communities.
Mr Likomba says the initiative has brought about change of a laziness mindset among citizens.
He told ZANIS in Mongu that Cash for Work is an indirect message to the people that for them to make money, they must work for it.
Mr Likomba said the Cash for Work programme in Mbekise ward started on September 1, 2024.
He explained that the programme will run for six months and that Mbekise ward was given a total of 40 individuals per month to do the work.
Mr Likomba said that his ward has six zones therefore, dividing the six months into the six zones.
The six zones include Mukangu, Lukulo, Luandui, Nanjeko, Musalanga and Sisaa.
“Mbekise ward was given to a total of 40 individuals per month to do the work Therefore, more were willing to take part in this but the allocation was limited.
“I had to divide the six months into the six zones of my ward that gave me an equal share of one month per zone. This shows that every month, a different zone is given the opportunity to carry out work in their zone at their rightful month until the end of the programme,” Mr Likomba explained.
He said Luandui zone was the first to start the programme with clearing up the land given for the construction of a secondary school infrastructure.
Mr Likomba said that works are currently underway in the Nanjeko zone.
