Kanyama gets a police post

Lusaka Province Minister, Sheal Mulyata says the government values the participation of the private sector in complementing its efforts in meeting citizen’s needs.

Ms Mulyata says this is why the government will continue to foster strengthened partnerships with the private sector to enhance service delivery through infrastructure development.

She said this in a speech read on her behalf by Lusaka Province Acting Assistant Secretary, Beston Mboozi during the handover of Twin Park Police Post in Lusaka’s Kanyama area constructed by Good Time Steel.

Ms Mulyata stated that the government attaches great importance to infrastructure development aimed at strengthening crime prevention, detection and prosecution.

She said the handover of the police post is a pivotal step in a collective commitment to enhance safety and security of communities.

Ms Mulyata described the gesture by Good time Steel as a true demonstration of the it’s commitment to meeting its social corporate responsibility to the community.

“The presence of this police post is a tangible assurance that law enforcement will be more accessible, responsive and vigilant,” she said.

Ms Mulyata called on the police officers who will be stationed at the facility not only to be law enforcers but also to serve as guardians of hope for the people in the area.

“Be good advocates, community leaders and mentors, so that your presence here should inspire confidence among residents that they have someone to turn to in times of need,” she said.

She further appealed to community members to collaborate with law enforcers to foster close relations and dialogue between the two parties.

And Good Time Steel General Manager, Durban Kambaki said the handover of the police post constructed at a total cost of three million kwacha, symbolizes the company’s commitment to safety, security and well-being of the community.

Mr Kambaki noted that strong partnerships between the private sector and law enforcement is a vital element for a safer environment where businesses, families and communities can thrive without fear.

“We are not just passing over the keys but entrusting a vital resource to those who will serve and protect our community and enhance the capabilities of our local police service”, he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Division Criminal Investigations Officer, Mufaweli Mukosiku who represented the Inspector General of police, Graphel  Musamba said the facility will help the police officers work proactively in ensuring safety for people in the area.

Mr Musamba said the Police service is determined to provide police presence in all corners to combat crime.

He described the gesture by good time Steel as a crucial step that will contribute to fostering a crime free zone in the city.

He challenged police officers to ensure their service provision to the community is satisfactory and efficient. 

And Chawama Member of Parliament, Monty Chinkuli said the gesture is something that should be appreciated by all well meaning citizens.

Mr Chinkuli said despite Kanyama facing several security challenges, the police are equal to the task and the facility will enable them to work more effectively.

“Such gestures can only be achieved if there’s political will, so we are grateful to the government for creating an environment that makes private companies participate in the governance of the country, ” he said.

The fully furnished Police post has been constructed at a cost of three million kwacha including land, main structure, fittings and furniture.
