Lunte to have a modern  secondary school

Government has started the construction of a secondary school in Lunte District under the Zambia Education Enhancement Project (ZEEP) funded by the World Bank.

Lunte District Commissioner Joseph  Chilando says that the school to be constructed at a cost of over K20 million in Luangwa Ward, will be called Vincent Bulaya Secondary School.

Speaking when he led a team from the Ministry of Education in checking works at the school, Mr Chilando revealed that government plans to convert the school into a boarding school to accommodate pupils from across the country.

“The boarding school is going to cater for pupils from surrounding primary schools and also the population of almost twenty thousand people in the area, however,  the government would wish to make the school a boarding school so that it caters for pupils from other parts of the country,” Mr Chilando said.

He added that government will look into  challenges that have been raised by the workers in order to ensure smooth construction of the school which is at foundation level.

“We are behind schedule already because by this time, the project is supposed to be at roof level, but because of these challenges, we are still at roofing level, we need to address these challenges and government will work to ensure these challenges are addressed,” he said.

And Project Technical Supervisor, Cephas Mulenga, told the team of government officials that inspected the works that construction of the school has been hampered by the lack of water at the site.

“The project would have been moving fast, but we have no water on site, the best would have been for government to put up a water system or borehole before anything was started because now we are stuck due to the water situation,” he said.

And responding to the challenge, Lunte District Education Board Secretary Edward Tompwe said a contractor will soon be on site to put up a water system as everything has already been finalized.

Meanwhile Luangwa Ward Councillor, Darius Mwenda thanked government for considering constructing the school in his ward.

Mr, Mwenda explained that the community has received the initiative with open hands and is eager to see the completion of the project.

Lunte District currently only has one boarding secondary school, Lunte Girls Technical Secondary School.
