The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that it successfully concluded its Emergency General Meeting (EGM).

According to a press release issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today, FAZ Communications Manager, Sydney Mungala, disclosed that during the sitting the Council deliberated on proposals invoked by its members.

Mungala revealed that the submissions made by Maestro United Football Club (MUZA) and Elite Ladies were deferred from the June Annual General Meeting as they bordered on the constitution.

He further disclosed that the Council passed the FC Muza proposal while the Elite Ladies submission was partially admitted with the Electoral College realignment deferred to next year’s AGM.

And FAZ General Secretary, Reuben Kamanga, hailed the membership for demonstrating unity and strength in refining the constitution.

“The council voted overwhelmingly in favour of the constitutional amendments after having deliberated on the submissions. The EGM adopted the proposal to have the Zambian Premier League (ZPL)  Chairperson elected by the members and also aligned the mandate to the FAZ executive committee’s life,” says Kamanga.

“The council agreed that the Referees Committee will be chaired by a former referee with a vice chairperson and two others making the grouping. The Referees Committee, Medical Committee, Finance Committee and Audit and Governance Committee will be headed by an expert as opposed to an executive committee member,” he stated.

Kamanga further paid tribute to the members for having overwhelmingly supported the constitutional amendments.

“Today, football was the ultimate winner with the membership standing together. A big congratulation to the football family for having seen out this process, it was not just a victory for football but the constitution,” Kamanga says.

The EGM drew participation from 70 members representing more than two-thirds attendance.
