Construction of the first ever weigh-in-motion bridge in Nakonde District of Muchinga Province at a cost over K85 million has reached an advanced stage.
The bridge, which is at 80 percent complete and expected to be completed by December this year, will be the first ever weigh in motion bridge in the country once completed.
Speaking in an interview with ZANIS, Resident Engineer Dewald Polgieter said the vehicles will be weighed while in motion over the weighing bays.
Mr Polgieter explained that the advantage of the motion system is that there will be no long queues as the trucks will be weighed in motion.
He stated that most of the works have been done and only minor works remain such as street lighting and electrical fittings.
“ This will be the first of its kind in Zambia and we aim to finish it in a stipulated time frame so that the cost of doing business here will be improved “, he said.
And Nakonde District Commissioner Marvelous Sikapizye said the district has never received such unprecedented developments..
Mr Sikapizye noted that soon the district will be like any other developed districts in the country.
“ I can testify that as a district we have received unprecedented development and this is the way it should be”, he said.
