SEC partners with institutions of higher learning to create awareness on capital markets

The Security and Exchange Commission has partnered with institutions of higher learning to promote investments in the capital markets to spur economic development in the country.

Security and Exchange Commission Manager for Market Development, Dingase Makumba, says the Commission will use debates competitions to create awareness on the immense investment opportunities in the capital markets

Ms Makumba said there is a need for Zambians to explore investment opportunities in the capital market by investing in bonds and stocks to contribute to the country’s economic development.

She said this during the Central Province Debate Competition at Mulungushi University in Kapiri Mposhi District.

“As a commission, we are here to create awareness on the available investment opportunities in the capital markets. People should invest in bonds and stocks to get massive returns for their investments,” Ms Makumba said.

Ms Makumba said Zambia has a lot of investment opportunities in the capital markets that could change the lives of many Zambians if well-harnessed.

She said the Commission will continue sponsoring debates on financial literacy with much focus on the promotion of investment in the capital market in line with its mandate.

She said the Commission is so far happy with the enabling investment environment that the government has created in the financial sector and will strive to be an active player.

Ms Makumba commended the Mulungushi University for emerging winner of the debate competition and has urged the students to use the acquired knowledge and skills to actively promote financial literacy on capital markets.

“Our partnership with learning institutions is based on implementing the national strategy and financial education. We are using debates to enhance knowledge and skills development among the students and Zambians,” she said

She said the commission remains committed to delivering on its mandate of creating awareness on capital markets issues among citizens.

Ms Makumba emphasized the need for consumers of various financial services to protect themselves from fraud and scammers by being on higher alert when dealing with digital and crypto  business.

Mulungushi University Dean of Students Daniel Mauzu, who represented the institution at the event, said the institution will be financially literate.

Meanwhile, Mulungushi University student Musuma Mulenga emerged the best speaker of the Debate Competition.

The debate was held under the motion “Crypto assets are a scam and should not be allowed in Zambia”.
