Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo, says teachers are the backbone of the education system in Zambia and are crucial in shaping the future of society.
Speaking during Teacher’s day celebration in Chongwe district, Ms Masebo highlighted the significance that the government places on teachers across the country.
She said the government appreciated the important role that teachers played in enhancing development in the country.
Ms Masebo however, cautioned teachers against the use of social media to air out their grievances.
“I urge you to use social media responsibly in order to grow a better profession, every house has challenges just like any other sector, I implore you to use many platforms such as trade unions”, she said.
And Teacher Union Representative, Zion Mumbichi thanked the government for the many initiatives such as recruitment of teachers, constructions of schools and the Free Education Policy that the government has undertaken to improve the education sector.
And Chongwe District Education Board Secretary Joseph Banda expressed happiness with the number of teachers that attended the event.
And giving a vote of thanks, Mukamambo II Girls High School Deputy Head teacher Anita Maambo thanked government for involving teachers in decision making at all levels
This year’s Teacher’s day is being commemorated under the theme “Valuing Teachers Voices: Towards New Social Contract for Education”
