President Hakainde Hichilema says the Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) has been put in place to address inadequacies that are inherent in government systems.
Mr Hichilema says the desire of government is to effectively deliver services to the people in different areas.
He lamented that when services are not delivered on time, it takes away the appetite and motivation to deliver, hence the PDU which has been put in place to take care of the inadequacies.
“We want the people of Zambia to feel the presence of government,” he added.
The President was speaking when he graced the first Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) forum in Lusaka.
He further expressed happiness with the positive feedback from the tariff proposals made by the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) adding that the ordinary Zambian must be considered.
Speaking at the same event, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said the PDU has enhanced public service delivery.
Mr Kangwa disclosed that the PDU has paved way for the ministerial and provincial delivery units, in terms of enhancing service delivery in the country.
He appreciated the public service, working with the PDU for their efforts and pledged commitment to transform the PDU towards attainment of people’s aspirations.
Meanwhile, Head of the PDU Kusobile Kamwambi said the PDU is making data driven decisions which have led to enhanced accountability.
Ms Kamwambi explained that the PDU has been able to identify gaps and reach out to the necessary authorities to ensure institutions are strengthened.
She further said the PDU has adopted the principle of prioritization, cross sectional coordination, technical advisory, use of technology and artificial intelligence for data analysis as well as a robust monitoring and evaluation system.
She also appreciated cooperating partners for identifying the PDU as a partner in development.
