Chavuma Town Council has awarded a contract to Palmetto trading to work on 29.6 kilometres of selected township and feeder roads in the district.
ZANIS reports that Chavuma Council Secretary, Isaac Kagombe, says the scope of work in all the contracts includes grading, graveling and placement of some culverts in some sections of the roads.
Mr Kagombe has further called on people in the areas where work will be done to render support to contractors to finish the project within the stipulated period.
He has also warned local contractors that shoddy works will not be tolerated hence should follow what is stipulated in the bill of quantity.
“I wish to call on the contractor to deliver quality works within the stipulated time. As the road is of economic benefit, and working on it will boost productivity in the area,” he said.
And Chavuma Council Chairperson, Rodrick Sandando, has thanked government for bringing development in the area.
Meanwhile, Palmetto Trading Limited Chief Executive Officer, Mukela Mukela revealed that the project has been handed over to them and is expected to be completed within 12 months.
Mr Mukela assured that the workforce will be sourced from the local community as a way of empowering local people.
